When I was a kid I spent time drawing horses, cowboys and even a pumpkin (above) from an art book my parents provided. Somewhere around the age of 10 I gave it all up for nearly 50 years. Oh sure, there were moments in the void….a short time spent with acrylics and then a few weeks with watercolors, but for the most part…nothing.
Then, in my early sixties, my desire to get back into the world of art woke up after a long, long sleep. I took a workshop with a wonderful artist, Carole Hillsbery of Mesa, Arizona. This workshop opened the door, and I went from a few paintings a year to a few a month to a few a week. Today, some seven or eight years later, I am completely absorbed in the pursuit of improving my art. I have learned much along the way, and experienced a few highs and many lows. My chosen medium, watercolor, is as one of my instructors (John Adams) once said…”like golf…he with the fewest strokes wins.” I might add, it can also be just as frustrating as golf.
Along the path of my journey, I have picked up numerous tips and tricks and a host of detailed information about pigments, papers and techniques. These have been gleaned from a host of sources across the internet, classes and workshops. With this site, I hope to centralize the knowledge I have acquired, and will continue to gather, about watercolor and offer it as a resource to other painters like myself – those who love watercolor, and are in the process of developing their skills.
I have also discovered many remarkable watercolor artists during my adventures in the medium and from time to time I hope to feature various artists with links to their sites so that any visitors to this blog can enjoy their work as well.
